PERRY COMO LODGE BEACH PARTY
On August 1st, if you weren’t at Crab Meadow , in Huntington, for the Son’s of Italy beach party, then you missed the big event of the 2010 summer season! The Perry Como Lodge really knows how to throw a party and this day was no exception.
For those of us who joined in on the fun, the clear skies, bright sun and deliciously cool water of the Sound provided the backdrop for this wonderful day. 50 of us gathered under the pavilion and were treated to the fantastic food provided by “ Chef’s of New York” caterers located in Huntington. Even die-hard Italian food lovers would say that “Chef’s”baked ziti and meatballs were ranked up there as authentic Italian fare.
Once we all were satisfied after piling our dishes and filing our stomachs, President Gabe was actually able to gather up enough people to play sand volleyball. We had a lot of fun, despite the heat of the day, while the on-going phrase shouted during the game was usually,” Out of bounds! “
Shake you booty? We sure did as D.J. Bob entertained the dancing crowd for hours on end. Cha-cha , swing, electric slide were just a few of the tunes that had us up twirling and shaking around. Bob did a great job keeping all of us entertained.
Dessert anyone? If you were there then you knew the lodge members provided an amazing” Viennese Table” suitable for everyone’s taste. Around and around the table we walked, finally settling on the best cookie, pie or cake to accompany a great hot cup of coffee. Most of us went back for seconds—do Italians have a sweet tooth? [ you bet! ]
Dusk: the beach party was nearly over, time to retrieve collapsed sand chairs, colorful wind blown umbrellas and empty coolers. A special thank you to Lucille , Angelo and their committee for making this an enormously successful summer event.
